The world of indoor plants is a vast one, with tons of varieties to choose from. There are many reasons people have them in their homes. Maybe you want a nice green plant on your desk, or maybe you want to make a houseplant out of the spider plant that’s been hanging around for years. Do you know what kinds of plants can be dangerous for you, your family, and your pets? This article will introduce you to a few plants that can be harmful.
Juniper Bonsai Tree
If you enjoy trees, you may be considering acquiring a bonsai tree. These trees look like full-sized versions, they just live in containers and stay small. They can make a beautiful addition to your home or office, but you should consider some of their poisonous features before buying one. Juniper bonsai is actually quite popular among those who want indoor plants that are dangerous for homes because it’s pretty safe as far as bonsais go (most others will require extra caution). Be careful with this plant if you have pets – specifically cats – around though!
Succulents
Succulents are becoming increasingly popular among plant enthusiasts, especially in the last few decades. There are a few reasons for the reason for that such as they’re pretty easy to care for, and there are a lot of varieties. Some succulents can be dangerous though. For example, if you have kids or pets around the house (or even young children), it’s probably best not to get an aloe vera plant unless you want them ingesting some leaves!
Nerium Oleander
Oleander is often found in warmer areas of the United States and elsewhere. This plant is another popular plant, but it’s one you should avoid. It has lovely flowers and can make a nice addition to an indoor garden or anywhere else in your home. These plants can be beautiful but they’re also quite dangerous. They’re poisonous to people and animals if ingested. They should not be kept around children or pets that like chewing on things/plants (or even adults who might eat them), for this reason!
Dieffenbachia
Also known as dumb cane, these plants are easy to cultivate and take care of, but they can be dangerous. The Dieffenbachia is a popular houseplant and it’s often found in offices, too. This plant has leaves that are poisonous if ingested by humans or animals. They can cause swelling of the tongue and throat, which can make it difficult to speak – hence the name dumb cane!
