Bad Habits That Are Making You Look Older

We all want to look and feel young, but there are certain things we do that age us. Some of these things are unavoidable, like getting wrinkles from aging skin or hair thinning as you get older, but others are preventable. The blog post below goes over the top things that can make you look older. These are all common habits that many people have, so it’s important to be aware of them!

Consuming Too Much Alcohol

Yes, it’s okay to have a glass of wine or two from time to time. But if you drink every day and have several drinks at each sitting, you might want to cut back. Drinking too much alcohol not only causes wrinkles but also heats the skin as your body tries to break it down. This process causes blood vessels in the face to dilate, which shows through the skin and makes you look flushed, or “rosy.” In addition, drinking too much alcohol can cause cheeks to become red. You’ll definitely want to avoid this if you don’t want to look older than your years.

Not Consuming Enough Water

You’ve heard it before, but do you remember to drink enough water every day? Dehydration can make your face look gaunt and aged. Water helps keep the skin hydrated, which prevents lines from forming on the face. When you don’t drink enough water, your body tries to retain as much moisture as it can by holding onto water in the skin. This makes your face look puffy and bloated, which is not a good look if you’re trying to appear younger.

Smoking

We all know that smoking is bad for us, but it can also cause our skin to appear more wrinkled. Smoking causes blood vessels in the face to constrict, which shows through the skin as fine lines and wrinkles because those blood vessels aren’t delivering as much oxygen and nutrients to the surface of the skin. It also deprives your skin of essential antioxidants, which can damage the skin and make it look older. Smoking also causes the skin to sag and lose its elasticity. It is all-around bad for your health and your appearance so you should just stay away.
